The excel project was definitely the best and most rewarding project I think we have done thus far. Even thought I took previous classes like CGS 2531 here at the University of Florida, there was one thins which did not get the chance to learn which was pivot tables which help me to really realized the greatness of Microsoft Excel. In this students had to applied several basics techniques which we acquired either maybe from previous classes or from the lectures or information provided by our ISM 3004 course. Some of these basic helped me to walk through the Excel Project with not very much hassle. The information that was present on the Excel sheet, was about 500 different subjects how heart rate was collect for each minute of 20 minutes where they worked out for 15 minutes and cool out for 5 minutes. Being able to use diferent things such relative and absolute cell addressing, helped me to make calculate values for 500 different people with in seconds, once a function was put into a cell.If I wanted to find the maximum heart rate for each person, I could easily enter a function such as =Max(I3:AC3) for one person, then drag down to calculate everyone else's, which is done in seconds.
Over everything I learned about Excel, there are two things which I think are absolutely amazing. These two things are the "IF" functions and Pivot Tables. "IF" Function are function which does a logical test, and then it yields a specific answer if it is true and then yields another specific answer if it is false. Her is and example: =IF( [any number]> 0, “positive”, “negative”), in the test if a number is greater than zero it will yield the answer that it is a “positive” if it is false it will yield that it is “negative”. The amazing thing about this and excel itself is that you are able to use this for a large amount of information.Pivot tables is another amazing thing i learned. The way pivot table work it thats it takes a BUNCH of information and magnifies it to specific categories, where could get different results as far as the sum, average, count, min, max, etc, of those categories. This capability is easier to see, than to explain because it is really something that work wonders.Overall I enjoyed the project, and I would really like to learn more about Excel.
